last lights of mariposa recede
but inside the glow,
i feel the fall, and the rise
of my loathe

this terrible lift of the sea
life’s pain and my grief were the same to me
(will this gentle tide go down with me?)
but i hear the call
the mighty roar
of the mountain hall
and i feel as cold
as i should never be

waves come in between your sight and life’s ship as it sails
